2017 marks the 30th anniversary of one of the most cherished and influential science fiction films ever — one that gave Mexican actress Elpidia Carrillo her most recognizable role: PREDATOR (1987). An action-packed Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicle, the film takes place in the Central American jungle and feels like a political thriller until the presence of something otherworldly is discovered. When Schwarzenegger’s team infiltrates an enemy camp, Carrillo appears as Anna, a girl who is terrified and barely speaks English, but has seen the Predator move through the jungle and has seen what it can do to a man.
In the years since PREDATOR took the world by storm, Carrillo has acted steadily in television shows like MIAMI VICE, LAW & ORDER: SVU, and NASHVILLE. She received critical acclaim and several ensemble awards for her role in Rodrigo Garcia’s NINE LIVES and appeared with Will Smith in SEVEN POUNDS. She was interviewed in 2001 for the short documentary film IF IT BLEEDS WE CAN KILL IT: THE MAKING OF PREDATOR (2001).
